So simple.

It's just that simple. iTunes is the easiest way to manage your music. Create custom playlists or share your favorite mixes with others through the iTunes Music Store. I love searching through the iTunes Music Store because I can always discover a new artist that maybe I heard in a TV commercial or a song that I heard on a show. It's all right there. It's fun too. I love checking my "Top 25 Most Played" weekly. It's always changing, never boring.

It's so simple, even a caveman can do it.

The easiest and simple way to manage your musical collection is through iTunes. I've created various "smart playlists" by organizing it according to genre or artist. Some of my smart playlists include distant memories are songs that I've never listened to before. However, it doesn't matter. iTunes has something for everybody of any age, no matter what your musical tastes are. Also, within the iTunes music store, there is a cool feature called "just for you". The feature itself is based upon what songs you previously own and have bought from the iTunes music store, but suggesting new ones to try. Some of the suggestions that were made for me I like and want to check out, but others.... their guesses are totally off.

Admit it -- a highly useful internet-based tool.

Just when you thought the Internet was going to be nothing but the
Dancing Baby and a lot of poorly-constructed Geocities homepages, along
comes something internet-based that's actually useful: iTunes.

It's a genius application that makes everyone happy -- except the
people who aren't finding the music they like on there.
(Admittedly, it'd be nice to see some Radiohead singles and Tool
albums, but as of this riff, nada.)

A great idea whose time was long overdue.

Probably the single best piece of software ever

When I first bought my iPod in 2003 and started using it with Musicmatch, I got jealous of the Mac users with their sleek and well-integrated music player that Apple splashed screenshots of all throughout the iPod manual. I could tell I was misisng out on something special. From the minute Apple unleashed iTunes for Windows right up until right now when I run iTunes off of my iMac instead, I don't think there has been a day gone by that I have not opened this app. Not only that, but I can say without feeling incredibly nerdy that iTunes has changed my life.

First off, the interface of the program is unbelievably simple to the point that it makes it impossible to imagine how an audio player could work laid out any other way. Every song, artist and album are incredibly easy to find to the point that I don't even use any brainpower to operate iTunes anymore - just by thinking a song it seems to start playing since my fingers are so used to the habit of searching. The drag-and-drop construction of playlists actually makes making them fun of all things - I feel like I'm playing tetris or something. And every function, whether it be Shuffle, Album Art, returning to the playing song or whatever is instantly available via an obvious button. No menu-hunting required.

Next up is the Music Store. I recognize the Music Store is not for everyone (the audio quality isn't lossless, they don't have some indie bands, blah blah) and I myself still tend to buy hardcopy CDs if I want the whole album. But for quickly making a playlist of a couple of good songs, the Music Store is genius. The community that has been slowly building via "What Others Bought", "iMixes" and "Artist Reviews" has led me to a lot of terrific music I never would have found otherwise, even changing my entire favourite genre. I love exploring the store, and look foward to Tuesday mornings to see what was added and what the (usually excellent) free track of the week is.

Finally, yes, iTunes works in perfect conjunction with my iPod - syncing play counts, ratings, tags and everything in a way that I know I totally take for granted now.

For creating my music addiction and then giving me the tools to fulfill that addiction, iTunes is and always will be the most revolutionary app I've ever used. After all it's done for me, the least I could do is praise it in a review here.
