You can't own a wild thing

Audrey Hepburn is magical in this movie! She is whimsical and flighty, wild, free, and gorgeous!

But pushing the cat into the rain is horrible. As is the awful
Chinese character played by Mickey Rooney. That should just be
edited out of the movie completely.

I don't think I understood this movie when I first saw it as a teenager.

I love the beauty of the film and the shots of NYC, but I find the movie to be a bit empty and slow at points.

I love Cat

I'll say it again. I love Cat. I love the use of the the cat throughout the movie. The way Cat is often central to the shots in the apartment, during the party especially. WARNING SPOILER - Holly throwing Cat out of the cab was almost unforgiveable. The fact that she went back for him only partly makes up for it. Shame on her! That poor cat looked so wet and sad!
Did I mention I love Cat?

who doesn't love this movie?

it's so funny, because it's so dated in some ways (and mickey rooney is
flat-out offensive), and as maryhope points out, holly isn't exactly a
great role model. but this movie is magical and funny and pretty much
defines classic. and so the myth continues.

A girl just can't go to Sing Sing with a green face!

I'd be willing to venture a guess that over 60% of female college
students have a poster from this move in their room. She and it are
undoubtedly iconic. The funny thing is that she is an odd woman to want
to be like (Holly, not Audrey--who wouldn't want to be like Audrey?).
She is lonely, pessimistic, and closed off. But there is something so
very feminine, adventurous, and willing about her as well. She is fun,
and who doesn't want to be fun. And who doesn't want to own a pair of
black aligator shoes?
