Except for one thing: I once watched this documentary on these baby polar bears. The baby polar bears were so cute and loveable and they were obviously fond of their caregiver. But just like all things baby, one day they grew up. Even at three months the were pretty big; they didn't know their own strength and while playing one of the baby polar bears broke the caregiver's arm. Yup. Just. Like. That. This little guy looks cute but be warned, one day he'll grow up and break arms too. No kiddin'.

Doesn't bamboo look good to eat? Like it might taste like sugar? I bet it does.

everyone understands the cuteness of baby pandas. for some meta-cuteness, read wonkette's descent into panda obsession. i found it as absorbing as she seems to find pandas.

Yes, it's been established that they're cute, but have you people ever actually seen one of these animals up close and personal?

I visited the panda exhibit at the Memphis Zoo and was disturbed to see these giant black and white beasts, stained from laying in their own filth all day. They generally lay around and do nothing but eat bamboo and go to the bathroom on themselves. They are very sedentary animals which is part of the reason why the species is close to extinction.

Other than that, they're adorable.

no rest for the cute.

there's really one thing i have to say about baby pandas: holy
crap. they are very similar to regular pandas, except they are
tiny, misproportioned, and dependent on others for survival. oh,
and far cuter. they're born blind and weighing only 3-5 ounces,
with completely white fur.

baby pandas are nursed by their mothers for their first 9 months, and
they snack on bamboo when they get to be about 5 months old. a
LOT of bamboo. at first, they eat bamboo that's been ground up
into baby food formula, but when they get older, they eat different
varieties, like bamboo and jelly, chocolate bamboo, and bamboo
parmesan. they grow to be between five and six feet tall.
but then they're no longer babies. and they won't hybernate like
other bears.

HOLY CRAP THEY'RE CUTE. i would love a pet panda. since i
already grow bamboo in my bathtub, i think i'd be a good baby panda
dad, too.
